Martena Elam

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2010 in Windsor Cemetery, Windsor, Illinois, with Rev. Robert Clark and Al Krietemeier officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2010 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg. Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, AZ.
Mrs. Elam was born in Greenup, Illinois, the daughter of Earl and Neva Snearley. In March of 1943, Martena married Lloyd Elam and they enjoyed a marriage of over 50 years, until the time of his death in 1993. She began her teaching career in Westervelt and then substituted for years after moving to Strasburg. Students from her first class continued to communicate with her 60 years later. She was also famous for the fantastic pies she made. She will be missed.
Surviving are her son, Jim and grandson, Michael of Indiana; and daughter, Marita and granddaughter Meghan of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Lloyd.
