Marvin M. Elder , 69, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 10:56 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2023 and from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Saturday, both in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan, IL. Memorials may be given to Habitat for Humanity.

Marvin was born on October 4, 1954, in Sullivan, IL, the son of Arthur Lowell and Thelma Mildred (Stirrett) Elder. He graduated from Sullivan High School in the Class of 1972. Marvin married Connie J. Hardsaw on May 23, 1981 in Shelbyville, IL.  Marvin worked as a machinist at P&H Manufacturing and Shelby Tool and Die, both in Shelbyville. He later worked as a machinist at Fountaintown Forge in Fountaintown, IN, and as an over the road truck driver for Marvin Keller Trucking. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, and enjoyed woodworking and camping.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Connie; brothers, Lowell Elvin Elder (Tish) of Great Bend, KS, and Ronnie Elder of Bethany, IL; sisters-in-law, Dee Elder of Sullivan, IL, and  Denise Orton of Penitas, TX; brother-in-law, Mark Hardsaw (Debbie) of Mode, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Elder; brother-in-law, John F. Orton; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest C. and Carolyn K. Hardsaw; and three nephews, Terry Elder, Rusty Elder, and Christopher Hardsaw.
