(October 12, 1946 – October 31, 2016)

Mary Dell Stone, 70, of Montrose, IL, passed away at 9:16 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2016 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, IL with loving family by her side.

Mary was born on October 12, 1946 in Fort Wayne, IN, the only child of Walter and Marjorie (Pierce) Frank. She married the love of her life, Larry “Rocky” Stone on December 18, 1999, and he survives. She is also survived by her children, James “Jimmy” Green (Haley) of London, England and Stacy Green Jacobs (George) of Hinsdale, IL; and was “Granny” to her beloved grandchildren, Zachary, Tristan and Emme Green and Joanna Mary Luiza and Kate Jacobs. Other survivors are her sisters, Judy Lindgren (Ralph), Martha Bowdoin (Dennis) and Bobbi Clark (David); brothers, John Battle (Brenda) and Tom Battle (Lura); many cousins; and many nieces and nephews who love Aunt Mary deeply.

Mary attended Benton Consolidated High School in Benton, IL and studied at McKendree College in Lebanon, IL. She worked most of her life in the Chicago area. She and Rocky moved to Montrose in 2002. She loved living in the country, sitting on her porch, drinking coffee and watching her dogs play.

Mary was fiercely loyal to family and friends and had a soft spot in her heart for anything with fur and four feet. She enjoyed auctions, making jewelry, salvaging old barn wood and spending time with loved ones. Mary was an accomplished seamstress and spent many hours sewing with her Momma. She enjoyed making personalized gifts for all. She and her husband Rocky managed the ship store for the USS Rochester, Rocky’s Naval home.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter; and mother and step-father, Marjorie and Wayne Battle.
