Private graveside services will be held at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL.
Mrs. Cress was born on March 26, 1929 in Cypress, IL, the daughter of John Franklin and Leota Mae Stockdale Mathis. She worked at Selock’s 5 cents – $ 1.00 Store in Shelbyville and later at Brown’s Shoe Factory in Sullivan. Mary was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL. She married Wilbur John Cress on January 30, 1948. He died on December 13, 1999.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Cress of Strasburg; brother, Carl Mathis and wife Rita of Henton; sister, Daisy Briscoe and husband Leon of Sullivan; granddaughter, Wanda Stevens of Flora; and great grandchildren, Courtney and Amber Thompson of Flora.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur; son, Dale Cress (1997); brothers, Arthur (1926), Jim, John and Wiley Mathis; and sister, Beulah Roellig.
