Mary Katherine “Kathy” Compton, 79, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 in her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2015 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Roger Long officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, near Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Saving Orphaned Animals.

Mary Katherine “Kathy” was born on August 24, 1935 in Bethany, Illinois, the daughter of Herbert Paul and Katherine Lansden Majors. Kathy was a graduate of Pekin High School, Pekin, IL. She married Paul Franklin Compton on January 9, 1955. They recently celebrated their 60 years of marriage with family. Kathy was a homemaker and stay at home mother. She was also a 4-H leader and a caregiver for the ill. Kathy was a member of the Bethany Methodist Church, where she was baptized. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star in Sullivan and Royal Neighbors. Kathy had a deep love for animals.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Compton; son, Gerry (Rose) Compton of Shelbyville, IL; daughter, Katherine (Trent) Fisher of Salem, IN; three grandchildren that were the love of her life, Jason (Megan LeMade) Compton, Sarah Katherine Fisher and Adam Robert Fisher; and one great granddaughter, Madeline Louise Compton.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Joshua Paul Compton; and three brothers, Herbert Allen Majors, Gerry Thomas Majors and Howard Alexander Majors.

Kathy’s family would like to thank Dr. Janice Vandeevere of Neoga, IL, Dr. Philip Dy of Cancer Care Specialists of Effingham, IL, Sarah Bush Home Health, Sarah Bush Hospice and Nancy Syfert for all the love and help that they gave to Kathy while at home.
