Maureen McKittrick
(June 21, 1926 – December 03, 2015)
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Greg Breeden and Rev. Bob Turner officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Maureen was born on June 21, 1926 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Freeman H. and Bertha Ragan Summers. She attended Shelbyville High School and was a member of the class of 1945. In her youth, she helped her parents on the family farm and later worked alongside her husband on their farm. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Shelbyville, IL. Maureen was a member of the former Shelbyville Free Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and led the church youth group. She loved singing hymns and was a member of several trio and quartet groups at the church. Her heart was with missions and spreading the Gospel and love of Christ. She always put her family first and gave sacrificially to others, especially those in need. Her heart’s greatest desire was not only to see her family in Heaven with her, but also those whom she had the opportunity to meet. Maureen was a 4-H leader, Den Mother for Cub Scouts and cheerleading coach in the youth basketball program. She married Harold L. “Short” McKittrick on December 24, 1951. He died on February 27, 2013.
She is survived by her sons, Stuart McKittrick of Decatur, IL and Troy McKittrick of Shelbyville, IL; daughters, Jill Bauer and husband Dale, Jr. of Taylorville, IL and Jody Fleshner and husband Tom of Shelbyville, IL; brother-in-law, Hubert Wash of Seattle, WA; sister-in-law, Margaret Summers of Greenville, IL; eight grandchildren, Ashley McKittrick, Josh McKittrick, Jered “Brock” Bauer and wife Beth, Bryan Bauer and wife Becky, Mauree Priest and husband Brent, Morgan Fleshner and wife Robbi, Makenzie Rentfro and husband Jacob, and Dalton McKittrick and wife Stephanie; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Morris and Dennis Summers; sister, Georgia Wash; sister-in-law, Shirley Summers; nephew, Scott Summers; and two great grandchildren.
