Max E. Tabbert, 84, of rural Stewardson, IL, went to be with his Lord at 4:19 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the farm.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson with Rev. Richard Bremer officiating. Visitation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday in the church and also from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson, IL with military rites by the Wilbur Braughton American Legion Post #611 of Stewardson, IL. Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Strasburg is assisting the family. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church and School, Stewardson Lions Club or Stewardson Veterans Memorial.

Max was born on June 11, 1929 in rural Stewardson, IL, the son of Eddie L. and Retha M. Bruns Tabbert. He attended Stewardson High School, then enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952. Max married his sweetheart, Deloris J. Manhart, on February 17, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson. They moved to the family farm in March of 1953. Max was a dairyman, hog producer and farmer. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa. The family has many special memories of time spent with him down on the farm. The family farm became a Centennial Farm this summer. Max ran Tabbert Auction Service for 47 years. He also served on the Shelby County Board and was the Supervisor of Prairie Township. Max was a member and held various church and school offices at Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Stewardson and was a longtime member of Stewardson Lions Club.

Max is survived by his wife of 62 years, Deloris; children, David (Judy) Tabbert of Stewardson, Sharon (Nick) Grieco of Stewardson, Bill (Lisa) West of Mode, Donna Lankow of Stewardson, Diane Jack of Strasburg, Paul (Teresa) Tabbert of Stewardson, Dale (Mary) Tabbert of Strasburg and Chris (Karla) Tabbert of Strasburg; 25 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brother, Eddie D. (Barbara J.) Tabbert of Hawthorne, CA; sister-in-law, Arvilla Tabbert of Trenton, MO; step-sister, Diamond Risoli, Frisco, TX; step-brother Walter Smith of Springfield, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Viola Smith Tabbert; brother, Billie J. Tabbert; step-sisters, Mabel Smith Camfield and June Swipies; and step-brother, Kenneth Smith.
