Max Thomas Williams, 92, of Shelbyville, IL passed away at 7:43 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2019 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Gary Crowder officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 or V.F.W. Post #4829.

Max was born on June 19, 1927 in Odin, IL, the son of Melvin Earl and Nellie Blanche (Kepner) Williams. He attended Lakewood Schools and graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1947. Max was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. When he returned from the service, Max worked for the R.E.A. in Shelbyville, IL. He later worked for the Oliver Corporation, Herten & Williams Locker Service and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where he worked in Shelbyville and Alton, IL for over 30 years. Max was a member of Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81, V.F.W. Post #4829 and Moose Lodge #1294 all in Shelbyville, IL. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, shooting pool, mowing his yard, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and following his favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. Max married Helen Ann Archey on November 6, 1948.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Ann; children, Susan (Gary) Reynolds of Greenup, IL, Scott (Vicky) Williams of Shelbyville, IL and Doug (Debbie) Williams of Shelbyville, IL; son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Boarman of Shelbyville, IL; brother, Robert “Bob” Williams of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Todd (Lisa) Reynolds, Leisha (James) Nickerson, Rob (Martha) Boarman, Ed (Carrie) Boarman, Jodi (Rick) Allen, Derek Williams, Zach Williams, Courtney Williams, Mike Williams, Bryon (Kelsie) Graven and Brett Graven; 18 great grandchilderen; three great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Nellie; daughters, Sue Ann Williams in 1955 and Pam Boarman in 2017; son, Michael Williams in 1971; brother, Darwin (Hilda) Williams; sister, Dortha (William “Skipper”) Herbon; and sister-in-law, Lois Williams.
