Melissa R Shanks

Melissa was born on February 8, 1961 in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Charles Ray and Barbara Joyce (Miller) Evans. She graduated in 1979 from Centennial High School in Champaign, IL and attended Parkland College. She previously worked as a preschool teacher at the Paxton Community Nursery School and manager of Fannie May Fine Chocolates Store in Champaign, IL. Melissa stayed home to raise her children and later worked alongside of her family at Monical’s Pizza in Shelbyville. She enjoyed geocaching, treasure hunting, collecting Precious Moments figurines, playing tennis, traveling, baking, flowers, chocolate and above all, spending time with her family. She was a sweet-hearted woman and will be greatly missed. She married Mark Shanks on July 11, 1987 in Paxton, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Homes, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday and also one hour before service time on Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
She is survived by her husband, Mark; son, Alex Alan Shanks of Shelbyville, IL; daughters, Erin Rae Shanks of St. Louis, MO and Stefanie Elise Shanks of Shelbyville, IL; father, Charles Evans and wife Eleanor of Champaign, IL; brother, Timothy Evans of Champaign, IL; and sisters, Deborah Jean Delmonico and husband Frank of Sellersville, PA and Gayla Maze and husband Brian of St. Louis, MO.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Evans.
