Melva K Rowe

Memorial graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 in Mound Cemetery, Pana, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Provena Hospice of Champaign or American Cancer Society.
Melva was born on December 4, 1937 in Tuscola, IL, the daughter of Floyd and Bonnie Mabry Rowe. She graduated in 1955 from Villa Grove High School and was valedictorian of her class. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wesley Memorial Hospital (Northwestern University), Chicago, IL in 1961 and received her Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC in 1970. Melva was the Director of Nursing for the Visiting Nurses Association of Chicago, IL and later was Director of Nursing for the Champaign County Health Department.
Surviving are her sister, Vernalee Loy of Shelbyville; sister-in-law, Shirley Rowe of Gilman, IL; and nieces and nephews, Carol Loy Brown of Lebanon, IL, Sheila Rowe West of St. Louis, MO, Karen Rowe Bailey of Kankakee, IL, Doug Rowe of Cary, IL, Nancy Rowe Davenport of Sheldon, IL, Diane Rowe Fink of Onarga, IL and Lynn Rowe Miller of Branson, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Dr. Kendall Clifford Rowe.
