Melvin A Jones

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2010 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Jim Whitaker officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Jones was born on July 12, 1934 in Pana, IL, the son of Ernest S. “Casey” and Eulala G. Bertin Jones. He was a graduate of Pana High School and Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. Melvin was the Director of Purchasing for the Shelby Electric Cooperative in Shelbyville for over 40 years. He was a member and treasurer of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Shelbyville and a former member of the Tower Hill Lions Club. He married Joyce Kessler Durbin on September 17, 1988.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce; step-daughters, Susan Roley (James) of Stewardson, Janet Schultz (Jeff) of Stewardson and Joann Sheehan (Dan) of Neoga; sister, Rita Flesner (Wayne) of Shelbyville; step-grandchildren, Andrew, Tyler and Trentin Sheehan, Ashley Monroe (Dennis), Laney, Joel and Shyann Schultz and Jaci and Nick Roley; great step-granddaughter, Mykenzie Monroe; nieces, Paula Bruner (Tracey) and Rhonda Ruff (Shannon); and great nieces and nephews, Brett and Morgan Parsons, Jadyn Bruner and Briana and Brayden Ruff.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant sister, Mary Eulala Jones.
