Melvin F Fathauer
(January 23, 1923 – September 29, 2006)
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Visitation one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Arrangements by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville.
Mr. Fathauer was born on January 23, 1923 in Moweaqua, Illinois, the son of Herman Christian and Mary Christina Forbes Fathauer. He served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of WW II. He was a heavy equipment operating engineer with Operating Engineers Construction Local #965 of Springfield until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville and a 60 year member of Operating Engineers Local #965 of Springfield. He married Ava Florence Whitsett on June 22, 1947. She died on October 11, 2001.
Surviving are his sons, Alan Fathauer and wife Cathy of St. Petersburg, FL and Stephen Fathauer and wife Jyl of Shelbyville; daughter-in-law, Leslie Helton Fathauer of Shelbyville; brother, Carlos Fathauer and wife Berdella of Assumption; sisters-in-law, Iness Fathauer of Springfield, Grace Fathauer of Tower Hill and Agnes Fathauer of Tower Hill; five grandchildren, Ben Fathauer and wife Debbie of Catlin, Erin Fathauer of Springfield, Emily Fathauer of Springfield and fiancé Ryan Cour, Justin Fathauer and wife Monica of Shelbyville and Chelsea Fathauer of Shelbyville; and four great grandchildren, Nathan, Garron and Baily Fathauer of Catlin and Bryce Fathauer of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ava; son, David Lee Fathauer in 1998; daughter, Rebecca Lynn Fathauer in 1994; six brothers, Herbert, Eugene, Delbert, Herman Jr., Donald, and in infancy Merle Fathauer; and three sisters, Gladys Hawker, ImoJune Burrus and in infancy Iva Marie Fathauer.
