Melvin Reid Greer, 88, of Shelbyville, Illinois, died October 1, 2016 in Evansville, Indiana, with family by his side.

He was born in Greenfield, Illinois on July 27, 1928 to Mary Agnes (Mace) & Hiram Frank Greer. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Jo, his parents, his sister Mary Jeane (Greer) West, his brother Amol Mace Greer, and his wife of 38 years, Martha Joetta (Martha Jo or Marty) Blake Greer. He is survived by three sons, David Blake Greer (Kelley) of Newburgh, Indiana; Douglas Reid Greer (Karen) of Russellville, Arkansas; and Donald Lynn Greer (Angie) of Tolono, Illinois; five grandchildren Emily (Matt) Hines, Zachary (Lauren) Greer, Kalvin, Kurtis, & Keaton Greer; two great-grandchildren Zoey Greer and Olivia Hines, and seven nieces. He was co-owner of Corner Drug Store and Medical Center Pharmacy in Shelbyville. He retired after practicing as a Registered Pharmacist for over 50 years, holding licenses from Illinois and Missouri. He was a Master Mason for over 66 years (Greenfield Lodge #129 and Jackson Lodge #53), 32° Scottish Rite Mason, Royal Arch York Rite Mason, Shriner (Ansar Shriners), and a member of Shelbyville Lions Club. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War Era and played “Bass Horn” (Sousaphone) in the Army Band. He was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, where he truly enjoyed singing in the choir. He had a love of music, aviation, boating, and travel which he instilled in his family.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville, Illinois with Rev. Dan Seibert officiating, Masonic Rites by Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 of Shelbyville and flag folding and presentation by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Inurnment along side of Marty and Kim, to occur at a later date in Carrollton City Cemetery, Carrollton, Illinois. Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville, IL.
