Mike Sands

A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in Christ Tabernacle Church in Herrick, IL with Pastor Tom Suey officiating. Family and friends may gather from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the church. Family graveside services will be held Thursday in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Mid-America Preparatory School in Herrick. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.
Mike was born on October 4, 1952 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of William E. and Peggy Ann Sands. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1971. He then served in the U. S. Army. Mike worked for Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company for 42 years before his retirement. He loved his family, hunting, fishing and praising the Lord. Mike was a member of Christ Tabernacle Church in Herrick and Ducks Unlimited. He married Brenda M. Richardson of February 18, 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda; mother, Peggy Smith and husband Ken of Taylorville, IL; children, Ashley Reilly and husband Jon of Parker, CO, Rory Sands and wife Blair of Brookfield, MO, Tara Sands and fiancé Jonathan Wooten of Hendersonville, TN, James Ott Sands and fiancée Caitlin Hill of Charleston, IL, MeeRae Sands of White House, TN, Mandy Bradbury and fiancé Joe Congenie of Shelbyville, Bree Bradbury of Shelbyville, Sara Bradbury and fiancé Chris Woods of Shelbyville and Kristina Phelps and husband Jared of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Aleigha and Shakira King, Odyen and Ethan Sands, Kaitlyn and Madigan Reilly, Gabriel Sands, Makayla and Bryar Wallis, Kagan Bradbury, Emma and Timothy Congenie, and Zed, Marley and Ava Phelps; and sisters, Vicki Dixon of Arlington, VA and Kristi Bright and husband Jim of Creve Coeur, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father, William E. “Bill” Sands; brothers, Scott and James “Jimmy” Sands; grandparents, Ross and Flora Sands and Lucille and Ray Smith; and great grandparents, Cad and Merle Arthur.
