Millie M Freemon
(September 15, 1917 – April 24, 2015)

Millie M. Freemon passed away on April 24, 2015 in Olney, Illinois. Millie was a life-long resident of Shelbyville until she moved to assisted living in Olney in 2004. She was born on September 15, 1917 in Shelby County, Illinois, the daughter of Orval Ned Leach and Goldie May Duckett Leach. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1935 and married Russel G. Freemon on June 14, 1936. Russel died in 1992. She is survived by two sons, Rodney (Alberta) Freemon of Olney, IL and Robert (Mary Jo) Freemon of Garden City, SC. She has three grandchildren, Roberta (Robbie) Blythe, Ronald (Karen) Freemon, and Renee (Robert) Mulvihill. She is great grandmother to three great grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren. Millie is the last survivor of her family having been predeceased by sisters, Lorene Corley and Mary Lou Leach, and by brothers, Loren “Bud” Leach and Medford Leach as well as by her parents.

Millie was a firm believer in hard work. After high school, she worked in retail and after having her children cleaned houses and took in laundry. She then became a cafeteria worker in the Shelbyville School for over 30 years. Millie was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Shelbyville. She was very independent and wanted to do everything for herself. She was sometimes called stubborn. However, those who could get beyond a sometimes gruff exterior discovered the warmth and kindness underneath. She was well liked by both the assisted living and nursing home staffs. Many referred to her as being “such a sweetheart.”

Services will be conducted by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville.
