Monte E Stretch

A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Quad County Hospice. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.
Monte was born on July 6, 1930 in Shelby County, IL, the son of John William and Florence (Summers) Stretch. He graduated from Westervelt High School in the Class of 1948. Monte was a painter and paper hanger in Shelbyville for over 20years. He also owned and operated car washes in Shelbyville and Mattoon, IL for over 50 years. He loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the University of Illinois Basketball teams play. Monte married Sarah Marie Sporleder on July 7, 1951 and she preceded him in death on November 8, 1986. He married Rosemary (Schmidt) Gruen on December 12, 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary of Shelbyville, IL; son, Kurt Stretch (Terry) of Mattoon, IL; step-son, Ron Gruen (Amanda) of Lenoir, NC; grandchildren, Kris Graves (Chad) of Arcola, IL, Brandon Stretch of Mattoon, IL and Hayley and Leanna Gruen both of Lenoir, NC; sisters, Leota, Elsie, Doris, and Carol; and brothers, Tom, Oscar, and Gary.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marie; brother, Dale; and sister, Emma.
