Morris A. Nichols, 92, of Shelbyville, formerly of Findlay, died at 1:41 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2008 in Shelby Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Steve Lindstrom officiating. Visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Findlay Cemetery, Findlay, IL. Memorials may be given to the Findlay Baptist Church or the American Lung Association.

Mr. Nichols was born on September 6, 1915 in Moweaqua, IL, the son of Marshall and Mildred Marshal Nichols. He began farming in 1942 and in 1959 started a backhoe business. He retired in 1988 at the age of 73. Morris was the Todds Point Road Commissioner from 1960-1987 and the Auditor from 1987-1991. He was a member of the Findlay Baptist Church and the Illinois Road Commissioner’s Association. He received the Honorary Farmer Award from the Findlay FFA. He married Zetta Leona Short on June 30, 1937. She died on October 22, 1998. He married Doris Scott on October 12, 2002 in Shelbyville, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Doris; sons, Jerry Nichols and wife Pat and Larry Nichols and wife Fritzie all of Shelbyville, IL, Wayne Nichols and wife Shari of Brady, TX, and Mike Nichols and wife Sue and Brian Nichols and wife Cathy all of Bethany, IL; daughters, Linda Reynolds of Bradenton, FL, Debbie Felter of Bethany, IL, Marsha Carpenter and husband Bob of Neoga, IL and Lori Ryherd and husband Doug of Findlay, IL; step-children, Jamie Nickell and husband Bruce of Bondville, IL, Chuck Farris and wife Lynne of Owensville, MO and Lori Morse and husband Tim of Shelbyville, IL; brother, Lloyd Nichols of Butler, IL; sisters, Norma Newcome of Moweaqua, IL and Betty West of Nokomis, IL; 22 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and one step-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Zetta; brothers, Keith Nichols and Marshall Nichols, Jr.; sisters, Helen Roady and Gertrude Cole; and one grandson, Jeremy M. Nichols.
