Nancy L Barker

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2010 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kathy Lewis officiating. Visitation from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Shelby Humane Society.

Nancy was born on July 8, 1929 in Pana, Illinois, the daughter of Lloyd Everet and Daisy Hatcher Ramsey. She married Wayne Dewitt Barker on December 27, 1948. He died on December 4, 1972. She attended high school in Detroit, MI, and studied at Sparks Business College and Lake Land College. Nancy worked for General Electric in Mattoon and Decatur. Mrs. Barker enjoyed researching genealogy, and made many friends who contacted her for information. She was also an accomplished painter, who received many 1st place ribbons in the Shelby County Art Shows over numerous years.

Mrs. Barker’s children include Linda (Marvin) Debolt of Shumway, IL, Wayne (Mary Jo) Barker, Jr. of Fenton, MO, Candace (Brian) Settle of Naples, FL, Daniel (Cyndi) Barker of Turnersville, NJ and Donald (Camice) Barker of Shelbyville; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Barker of Panama City, FL; brother, John “Jack” (Elsie) Ramsey of Elmira, MI; grandchildren, Michel Debolt, Mark Debolt, Alyssa Barker-Brieler, Erin Barker, Justin Settle, Zac Barker, Johnna Barker, Kaylee Barker, Calen Barker and Cameron Barker; and great grandchildren, Leah Debolt, Haley Brieler and Rylan Brieler.

Nancy Barker counted her blessings in her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. Mrs. Barker’s son, John, gave his life for his country while serving in the U.S. Navy. One of her granddaughters completed Saint Louis University Medical School in May, and Mrs. Barker was able to attend her graduation party. She attended a grandson’s graduation from law school at Columbia University in New York a few years ago. A granddaughter in St. Louis has finished a Masters Degree in Library Science. She has another grandson with a degree in law enforcement, who also served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Currently, a grandson is completing his last year of pharmacy school, while her youngest granddaughter is completing a double major in rehabilitation services and special education and another grandson has finished his first year of college majoring in computer science. Mrs. Barker’s eldest grandson moved to England a few years ago and sponsored a trip to London for his grandmother. Mrs. Barker was excited to celebrate the graduations of her many grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; sons, Navy Lt. jg John Wesley Barker and David Barker; brother, Norman Eugene Ramsey; and grandchildren, Christopher Settle and Matthew Debolt.
