Naomi Barkhurst, 84, of Shelbyville, formerly of Springfield, died at 4:35 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2006 in Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Private graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Arrangements by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the Shelby County Senior Citizens Center.

Miss Barkhurst was born on September 7, 1921 in Lakewood, Illinois, the daughter of Judson and Dora McDonald Barkhurst. She graduated from Pana High School and Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. She was an Executive Secretary for the President of Illinois National Bank in Springfield. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville and the American Business Women’s Association of Springfield and was a volunteer for many Springfield and Shelbyville organizations. Naomi was an avid bowler, bingo player and Cardinal fan.

Surviving are her two sisters-in-law, Dona Barkhurst and Marcella Barkhurst both of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John, Floyd and Harold Barkhurst; sisters, Ruby Barkhurst, Ruth Sherwood, Blanche Strohl and Winona DeVore.
