Norma G. Jones, 92, of Tower Hill, Illinois, died at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, May 10, 2009 in her residence.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009 in Tower Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Livengood officiating. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday in the church. Burial will be in Tower Hill Cemetery, Tower Hill, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Tower Hill United Methodist Church.

Norma was born on November 28, 1916 in Tower Hill, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Edward and Anetta Eckert Jones. Miss Jones attended a one-room schoolhouse, Lockwood, which was located on the northwest corner of their farm. She then attended and graduated from Tower Hill Community High School. After high school, she went to Eastern Illinois University. In two years she received her teaching certificate and began teaching in rural schools. She continued her teaching career at Tower Hill Elementary, where she taught third and fourth grades for a few years. And then she switched to second grade for the remainder of her time there, with a total of 53 years of teaching. Additionally, she substitute taught for three years after her retirement. A special honor was bestowed on Miss Jones when nominated for Teacher of the Year, as well as being given a reception by the school for 50 years of exemplary teaching. She was also awarded the Alumnus of the Year Award for Tower Hill Community High School. Miss Jones was a member of the Tower Hill United Methodist Church, where she played the piano for church services and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, Shelby County Home Extension, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.

Surviving are her nephew, Alan K. Jones and wife Eileen of Tower Hill; niece, Karen M. Hodges and husband Larry of Conway, SC; great nieces, Brenda Wanless and Peggy Glotzbach and husband Gregg; four great nephews, Jason Hodges, Blaine Hodges, Craig Hodges and wife Sarah and Michael Jones and wife Kelly; two great great nephews; and five great great nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Forest Jones, who died in infancy, and Orville Jones; and longtime soul mate and friend, Bob Blauth.
