Paul Duane Tripp, 73, of Shelbyville, died at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Bonifacius officiating. Visitation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the family.

Mr. Tripp was born on June 26, 1935 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Cecil and Stella Martin Tripp. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a life-member of V.F.W. Post # 4829 of Shelbyville. He worked and was part-owner of Dave and Gene’s in Decatur for 42 years, owner and founder of Soy City Towing for 13 years, and owner and operator of Kaskaskia Bait Shop in Shelbyville for 31 years. Paul was a former Republican Precinct Committeeman in Decatur. He married Violet I. Bly on July 4, 1957.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Violet; sons, Van (Michele) Tripp of Arcola, Kevin (Jeanne) Tripp of Shelbyville, and Brian (Trena) Tripp of Westervelt; daughters, Lynnette Gulley of Shelbyville, Susie Schoon of Mt. Zion, and Brenda (Robert) Doty of Decatur; brothers, Cecil (Marcia) Tripp of Blaine, MN, Bob Tripp of Okeechobee, FL, and William Tripp of Decatur; sisters, Florence (Jack) Murphy of Okeechobee, FL, Mary Jane (Carl) Matthews of Russellville, AL, and Helen (William) Brakfield of Heflin, AL; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; all of his beloved cats and dogs; and a very special friend, Donald Oates of Shelbyville.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; one grandchild; and son-in-law, Rick Schoon.
