Phoebe R Schoch
(February 23, 1937 – July 18, 2014)
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Derrick Ritchie officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Tower Hill Cemetery, Tower Hill, IL.
Phoebe was born on February 23, 1937 in Pana, IL, the daughter of Edward Christian and Beulah Maloney Schoch. She began her schooling journey by attending the Knobs Grade School near the family farm. In 1955 she graduated from Tower Hill High School. Thereafter she graduated from Sparks Business College. She then earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Greenville College where she was a member of the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team. After graduating she taught both Girls’ Physical Education and Driver’s Education at the Nokomis High School for several years. Her next career, until retirement, was serving others as a CNA at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Taylorville where she was honored as the 1981 Employee of the Year.
Phoebe was a life-long member of the Tower Hill Christian Church where she served as a pianist and organist for many years. She also taught Sunday school and helped supervise Vacation Bible School, the Bible Bowl Teams and the Youth Group.
She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Whitlatch; niece, Judy Whitlatch Wagner; great nephews, Troy (Heather) Whitlatch and daughter Irie and Bryce (Rosemary) Wagner; and great nieces, Jennifer Wagner and Jamie (Mark) Muscato and son, Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Dean Whitlatch; nephew, James A. Whitlatch; and great niece, Courtney Wagner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to either the Alzheimer’s Association or the Tower Hill Christian Church.
