Phyllis Marilyn (Smith) McDonald, 78, of Lakewood, Illinois, died at 8:25 a.m. Sunday, April 8, 2007, at her family home after a courageous battle with cancer with family surrounding her. She was able to remain at home thanks to Quad County Hospice.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2007, in Lakewood United Methodist Church with Rev. Howard Sallee officiating. Visitation from 1:30 p.m. Sunday until time of services. Memorials may be given to Lakewood United Methodist Church or Quad County Hospice. Her body has been donated to medical science. Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McDonald was born on December 9, 1928 in rural Shelbyville, the daughter of H. Glen and Iva Myrtle Lee Smith. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1946 and married R. Stanley McDonald on July 27, 1947. She was an equal partner on the family farm, working the fields until blindness. She was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, where she served as financial secretary and Sunday school teacher for many years and was active in United Methodist Women. She was a 4-H leader and a friend to many.

She leaves her husband of nearly 60 years, Stanley; four children, Marilyn J. Donahoo, late husband Dale, and their two children Emily J. Donahoo Perry and husband Corey and Stanley A. Donahoo all of Shelbyville, Lois Walker and husband Dale and their three children Brett A. Walker, Marlene R. Walker and Suzanne M. Walker all of Windsor, Robert McDonald of Lakewood and special friend Anita Kingery of Teutopolis, and James McDonald and wife Nichole of Shelbyville; one step-great granddaughter, Mackenzie Perry, daughter of Corey Perry and step-daughter of Emily Perry; and two nieces and their families Donna Myers and Glenda Depoister of rural Holiday.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law; and brother, Robert Russell Smith.

She will be missed by many and will be remembered, for tomorrow is a new day.
