In keeping with Ralph’s wishes, no services will be held. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
Ralph was born on August 8, 1928 in Clarksburg, IL, the son of Solomon Edward and Lucy Jane Bodine Downs. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Ralph worked for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville for over 20 years, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, carpentry and raising livestock. He married Edna Louise Parks on May 11, 1952.
He is survived by his wife, Edna; sons, Randy Edward Downs (Patricia) of Fortson, GA and Ricky Lee Downs (Karen) of Temple, TX; daughters, Lucinda Kay Shields (Frank) of Brownsville, TX, Pamela Sue Carter (Glen) of Mattoon, IL and Lucy Jane Kahl (Kevin) of Witt, IL; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; and one grandchild.
