Ray Gray, 83, of Shelbyville, died at 5:18 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2008 in Shelbyville Manor.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Gary Young officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

Mr. Gray was born on March 6, 1925 in Patoka, Illinois, the son of Lyle James and Marie Elbert Gray. Ray was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. He married Mildred “Millie” Hill on March 17, 1946. He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad in Clinton, Illinois for eight years and was a life member of the DeWitt Masonic Lodge #84. They moved to Shelbyville in 1963, where Ray was a State Farm Insurance Agent until his retirement in 1989. Ray and Millie moved to Florida in 2002 and recently moved back to Shelbyville. Ray was an avid golf player. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and his dogs.

Surviving are his wife, Millie; sons, Lyle Gray and friend Peggy Adams of Shelbyville and Michael Ray Gray of Shelbyville; daughter, Rita Marie Wood and husband Bill of St. Elmo; grandchildren, Dustin Gray and wife Dina of Findlay, Ashley Adams and fiancé Bret Austin of Shelbyville, Douglas Wood and wife Kelly of Smithton and Jeffrey Wood and wife Carissa of Las Vegas, NV; and great grandchildren, Ashley Bryson of Shelbyville, Alexis Adams and Daric Austin both of Shelbyville and Nicholas Wood of Smithton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
