Raymond E. King, 89, of Shelbyville, died at 3:10 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 in Shelbyville Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2011 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.

Mr. King was born on March 8, 1922 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Robert Andrew and Minnie May Howater King. He graduated from Gilson High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He began working for Thermogas in Galesburg and moved to Shelbyville in 1963 to become the plant manager. He retired after 34 years of service. Raymond was a member of the First Christian Church and Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 both of Shelbyville and a former member of the Shelbyville Rotary Club. He married Gwendolyn Lois Cramer on November 8, 1946.

Surviving are his wife, Gwen; son, Robert King and wife Renee of Charleston; daughter, Debra Logan and husband Greg of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Ashley Rincker and husband Rory of Windsor, Jeremy Logan and wife Amber of Shelbyville and Cassandra King of Mattoon; and great grandchildren, Rhett, Rylan and Arora Rincker and Kelton and Aylah Logan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold King; and sisters, Vergene Putnam and Arlene Curry.
