Retha M Townsend
(June 28, 1921 – May 26, 2013)
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Greg Breeden and Rev. Robert Turner officiating. Visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to First Church of the Nazarene or the Shelby County Senior Center.
Mrs. Townsend was born on June 28, 1921 in Fancher, IL, the daughter of Selby and Fanny M. Debolt Hopkins. Retha worked as a Nurses’ Aide at Shelby Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Shelbyville, IL. Retha married Gareth Leroy Townsend on January 9, 1942. He died on September 23, 2002.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Townsend and wife Janet of Bloomington, IL and Gary Townsend and wife Patty of Shelbyville, IL; daughter, Glenda Reichart and husband Rick of Shelbyville, IL; sisters, Gene Argenbright of Shelbyville, IL and June Norfleet and husband Bob of Shelbyville, IL; seven grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gareth; one daughter-in-law, Judith Townsend; two brothers, Kenneth and Dale Hopkins; one sister, Alvena Childress; and one granddaughter, Cynthia L. Townsend.
