Rev. Allen Fanning, 84, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017 in HSHS Good Shepard Hospital in Shelbyville, IL.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville, IL with Pastor John Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, July 14, 2017 at 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and one hour before service time on Saturday both in the church. Memorials may be given to Concordia Seminary St. Louis, MO for married students with families.

Allen was born May 19, 1933 near Nemaha, IA, to Leo Edmond and Gladys Irene (Roberts) Fanning. He graduated from West Bend, IA High School in 1951. Allen married Grace Ann Naig on February 10, 1957. They farmed for several years until Allen attended college in Emmetsburg, IA and later Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Springfield, IL. Allen served congregations in Pleasant Plains, IL, Grand Rapids, MI, and Shelbyville, IL. Upon retiring from the ministry, Allen did vacancy pastoring and remodeled homes while waiting for Grace to retire. To celebrate the Golden Years, Allen and Grace worked with Labors for Christ and wintered in Texas where Allen was an RV Park Pastor. For the last six years he and his wife have resided in Westervelt, IL where they have been able to enjoy the youngest of their grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; children, Valerie A. Wyatt of Springfield, IL, Barbara A. Douma of Comstock Park, MI, Cory A. Fanning of Comstock Park, MI, Sandra A. Hoffman (James) of Comstock Park, MI, Paul A. Fanning (Lora) of Chestnut, IL, and Bethany A. Logue (Kyle) of Westervelt, IL; and; brothers, Robert Fanning of Virginia and David Fanning of California; 20 grandchildren, Rebecca Terzinski (Tom), Sarah Tuxhorn (Gabe Garnett), Mary Wyatt, Matthew Boyd (Emily), Stacy Boyd (Nick Nickel), William Douma, Ashleigh Fanning (Shane McCatty), Joel Fanning, Jacob Hoffman (Lisa), Joseph Hoffman (Emily), Jonathon Hoffman, Elizabeth Fanning, Nate Fanning, Samantha Fanning, Zachary Fanning, Nichole Logue, Isabel Logue, Leo Logue, Abigail Logue and Isaiah Logue; and 13 great grandchildren, Jenna and Jake Tuxhorn, Ryan and Taylor Terzinski, Kinsley and Declan Boyd, Luke, Ella and Isaac Hoffman, Raelyn, Rodriguez, Gavin and Carter Hoffman, and Gracelynn Smegal.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Eugenia Grimm and Mary Wright.
