Rev. Richard A Bremer
(October 24, 1955 – October 28, 2013)
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Stewardson, IL with Rev. Michael Mohr officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday in the church and one hour before service time on Saturday. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School.
Rev. Bremer was born on October 24, 1955 in Columbia City, IN, the son of Paul Martin Arnold and Isabelle Jane Wolfe Bremer. He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in the Class of 1974, Concordia College in River Forest, IL in 1979, and Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN in 1983. He served Grace Lutheran Church, Malden, MO, as a vicar during his seminary training (1981-82). Rev. Bremer also served as pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Iuka, IL (1983-89), Zion Lutheran Church, New Holland, IL (1989-92), St. John’s Lutheran Church, Beardstown, IL (1992-2004) and for the last nine years, Trinity Lutheran Church, Stewardson, IL. He dearly loved his church, the people and playing games with the kids. Rev. Bremer was a member of the Trinity Church Choir. He served his church body, the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, as a delegate to the national convention and as a Circuit Counselor, as well as Zone Counselor for the LWML. He served the communities in which he lived in various roles, including being a member of the COWS community strategic planning group in Stewardson, serving as mentor in the DADZ program at the Effingham Family Life Center, and coaching basketball at St. John’s Lutheran School in Beardstown. He married Sharon Marie Hennig on August 7, 1976.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Jason Bremer and wife Danielle of Lexington, KY; daughter, Caroline Beck and husband Shawn of Arenzville, IL; grandson, Bryson Paul Beck of Arenzville, IL; mother, Jane Fuller of Warsaw, IN; brother, David Bremer of Columbia City, IN; and sisters, Judy Waldron and husband Larry of Goshen, IN, Mary Sexton and husband Ralph of Columbia City, IN and Cathy Kirchaine and husband Yulee of Hampton, FL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Bremer; and step-father, Claude Fuller.
