Richard Charles Gordon , 91, of Beecher City, IL, passed away at 3:23 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at the home of his daughter in Bloomington, IL.

Graveside services for family, friends and community will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 4 th in Hubbartt Cemetery, Beecher City, IL.  The family asks that you wear a mask when not able to social distance.  Memorials may be given to the Arbor Day Foundation, Washington United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.  A private viewing with the immediate family and Washington United Methodist Church family will be held at 12:30 pm at the church prior to graveside services.

Richard was born on August 21, 1930 in Bethany, IL, the son of Charles Henry and Zelma June Hazel (Woolen) Gordon.  He attended grade school in Findlay, IL and graduated from Colfax High School in the Class of 1948.  Richard married Clara Evelyn Jones on January 14, 1950 in Strasburg, IL.  He was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer in rural Beecher City and a member of the Washington United Methodist Church in rural Stewardson.  Richard loved farming and worked the family farm, “retiring” in his early 80’s.  Richard traveled with his wife and visited all 50 states.  He was an avid reader and loved westerns.  His travels took him to many of the locations in his favorite stories.  The western United States was his favorite travel destination, but the family farm was his favorite place to be.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his four children, Darlene Watts of Orange Park, FL, Richard Dean Gordon (Debra) of Beecher City, IL, Debra Turbert (Francis) of Brevard, NC and Doretta Gordon of Bloomington, IL;   8 grandchildren;  16 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Evelyn Gordon on June 5, 2017, his parents Charles and Zelma Gordon, and his great grandson, Trevor Watts.
