Richard Campbell

Richard Henry Raymond “Rick” Campbell , 74, of Strasburg, IL, passed away at 2:59 p.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2021 in HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.

Celebration of Life Services will be held from 2:00-4:00 Saturday, February 5, 2022 in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.  Casual attire is requested.  Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or to the family and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

Rick was born on February 2, 1947 in Red Wing, MN, the son of Clair and Gene (Gonchar) Campbell.  He served in the United States Air Force in Okinawa, Vietnam and Korea.  Rick drove a semi from coast to coast, worked for R & R Construction at ADM in Decatur, where he was a foreman for the greenhouse building.  He also worked at K. Kondritz Construction in Decatur.  He loved his little 30 acre farm where he spent hours building things in “Grandpa’s workshop”.  He loved fishing with his boys, woodworking and spending time with Margie and family.  He loved showing Austin how to build and fix things.  Rick loved to play Pinochle with family and arguing with his father-in-law, Jim.  He lived in rural Bethany for over 30 years, before moving to Strasburg. Rick married Ann Johnson in 1975.  On April 10, 1982, he married the love of his life, Margie L. King.  They were married for 39 wonderful years.

He is survived by his wife, Margie; daughters, Jayme Collins (Daniel) of Maryland Heights, MO and Amy Campbell-Smith (T.J.) of Shelbyville, IL: sons, Joe Johnson (DeAnn) of San Tan Valley, AZ and Tim Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Joan Hogan of Decatur, IL; his grandchildren were his pride and joy, Austin and Jaxson Campbell, Nikki Green, Danny Collins, Kenzia Smith, Gavin Smith and McKinzie  Johnson; several nieces and nephews; many friends and family members; and special friend, John Hurt, his companion in everything.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Elwin Hogan; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Virginia King.

He will be missed by all who knew him.  A special thank you to the care team and HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital and Shelbyville Manor Nursing Home.
