Richard T. Jones

Richard Tallman “Dick” Jones , 80, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away peacefully under hospice care on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Willow Breeze Hospice House, Mattoon, IL, due to a stroke on February 22, 2024.

Dick’s wishes were to be cremated with no services.  A private burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL.  If desired, memorials may be made to Saving Orphaned Animals in Shelbyville, and mailed to Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, 415 North Broadway, Shelbyville, IL.

Dick was born on February 4, 1944 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Robert Lloyd Jones, Sr. and Betty Ione (Tallman) Jones. He graduated from Shelbyville High School and resided in Florida as an adult for many years, before returning to Shelbyville for the remainder of his life. Dick was a special person with a great sense of humor. The laughs shared with Dick will be memorable by all. He had many lovable dogs in his lifetime, and a beautiful cat, Kitty.

Dick is survived by his sister, JoAnn Stites and husband Frank; brother, Terry Jones and wife Marsha; sister-in-law, Mary Weber; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert Jones, Jr.

Dick was blessed to receive special love and assistance during the last few months of his life by nieces, Pam Werden and Laura Wharton. They were instrumental in providing Dick with a positive outlook for his future in assisted living. We are forever thankful to them.

The family would like to thank all of Dick’s friends for the calls and inquiries about his condition after the stroke, as well as the many visits he received while in the hospital and on hospice care. It was gratifying to see all of your love and concern for Dick.
