Robert B Swiney
(November 16, 1914 – February 25, 2008)
Funeral Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until time of service. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Mr. Swiney was born on November 16, 1914 in Windsor, Illinois the son of George William and Lola Essie Bennett Swiney. He graduated from Bethany High School and Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in WWII. He was a real estate agent for Brinkoetter & Associates in Decatur. He was a member of the Elks Club in Decatur, an avid golfer and in his younger days an amateur boxer.
He married Elizabeth C. “Betty” Anderson on October 12, 1946. She died on March 13, 1994.
Surviving are his son, Robert W. Swiney and wife Margaret of Findlay; daughters Elizabeth Ann Vaughn and husband Dan of Sherman, IL , Joan Marie Clever and husband Malcom of Anaheim, CA.; 9 grandchildren, 21 great grand children; brother William J. Swiney and wife Helen of O’Fallon, MO; and a host nieces and nephews .
He was preceded in Death by his wife, brothers George and Donald Swiney and sisters, Ada Arras and Geraldine Niles.
