Robert Giles Klauser, 97, lifelong resident of Shelbyville, IL, passed away peacefully at 12:35 a.m. Sunday, June 26, 2016 in Shelbyville Manor.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow the service in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard.

Bob was born on December 9, 1918 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Robert Ned and Rachel Giles Klauser. He was a graduate of Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1936, Sparks Business College in Shelbyville and Chanute Field Airplane Mechanics Technical School (1942). Bob was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and saw active combat duty, having been stationed in China and India. He owned and operated Klauser Brothers’ Harness Shop with his father and later Klauser Marine in rural Shelbyville, IL. Bob married Flora Belle Wood on July 4, 1945 at the home of her parents in Tower Hill, IL. They celebrated 64 years together. He was a past deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville, IL and a member of VFW Post #4829 in Shelbyville, IL.

Surviving are his daughters, Kathryn “Kathy” Waseen (Bob) of Bethany, IL and Virginia Christine “Chris” Cole of Shelbyville, IL; daughter-in-law, Jane Klauser of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren, Aaron Cole (April) of Windsor, IL, Steven Cole, Rachel Pope (Anthony), Harrison Cole and Cody Cole (Tatiana) all of Shelbyville, IL, Bryan Phillips (Barbara) of Toledo, IL, Shannon Klaska (Doug) of Decatur, IL, Mike Waseen (Stephanie), Jodie Klauser of Shelbyville, IL and Michelle Becker of Jersey Village, TX; twenty-two great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Flora Bell in June of 2009; and son, Robert Daniel Klauser in December of 2008 from a traffic accident.

Bob was a thirteen year cancer survivor after surgery and amazing care received at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. The family wishes to convey deepest gratitude to Angie Dipple, Corey Heselton and John Bolinger for loving care given. As well, our deepest gratitude to all on the team—doctors, nurses and CNAs—all who gave respect and dignity on this strong Soul’s way back home to God.
