Robert J. Bosgraaf , 60, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 4:07 p.m., Saturday, December 9, 2023 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2023 at Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Sam Brooks officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Shelbyville Community Unit School District (CUSD) #4.

Robert was born on November 22, 1963 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Ronald J. Bosgraaf and Gloria M. (Lankheet) Bosgraaf. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1981. In 1992, he graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in economics. With this degree and many years of experience working at Dairy Queen, he and his wife Tami opened Drubys in 1992. From 1992 until its recent sale in 2023, Rob and Tami ran Drubys and enjoyed serving the community for over 30 years together. Rob served as a member of the Shelbyville School District Board of Education for 16 years with many of those years residing as the president of the board. As an active member in Shelbyville schools, he was a member of the Shelbyville Booster foundation where he served as president for many years. Rob was a former elder of the first Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville.


During his free time, Rob enjoyed spending time with his family. Rob’s favorite family activity was boating on Lake Shelbyville. He was a long time boat owner and was someone who loved being out on the water with his friends and family. As an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Rob liked watching the Cardinals on TV as well as in person at Busch Stadium.

Robert is survived by his wife, Tami of Shelbyville, IL; son, Drew Bosgraaf (Meredith) of Shelbyville, IL; daughter, Maggie Keown (Jake) of Shelbyville, IL; grandchildren: Brooks Bosgraaf, Caroline Bosgraaf, Ada Kay Keown, and Ruthie Keown; father-in-law, Paul Brooks; sister: Rhonda Cole (Gus) of Shelbyville, IL; brother-in-law, Sam Brooks (Sherrie) of Monmouth, IL; and nieces and nephews: Trevor Cole (Cortney), Amanda Cole (Scott), Jake Brooks (Emily), and Grace Brooks.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, Ronald and Gloria Bosgraaf; mother-in-law, Kay Brooks; and nephew, Todd Cole.
