Robert Karl “Bob” Flesner , 95, of Springfield, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 9:27 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2021 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Shelby County Honor Guard.

Bob was born on September 15, 1926 in Tower Hill, IL, the son of Kobus H. and Clara E. (King) Flesner. He graduated from Tower Hill High School and was drafted into the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. Bob also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned home and graduated from Sparks Business College in Shelbyville He married Frances Marlene Hudson on February 13, 1955. Bob worked at United States Post Office in Shelbyville until his retirement. He enjoyed spending the winter months in southern Texas with his wife Marlene.

He is survived by his two sons, Bradley K. Flesner (Kathy) of O’Fallon, MO and Michael E. Flesner (Ida) of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Bailey Kimball (Christopher) of Phenix City, AL, Sterling Flesner of Springfield, IL, Michael Houser (Deanna) of O’Fallon, MO, Andrew Flesner (Tricia) of Columbia, MO and Stephanie Dopplick (John) of Hillsboro, MO; and great grandchildren, Brittany Pierce (Brian), Emily and Christopher Houser, Lilly Dopplick, and Thea Kimball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlene on February 23, 2019; infant daughter, Karen Flesner; infant great grandchild, Finneas Robert Flesner; brothers, Ralph, Ross, and Ray Flesner; and sister, Ruth Mars.
