Robert M. Nohren, 84, of Shelbyville, formerly of Lakewood, died at 12:05 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 in Shelby Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2013 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Lynette DeAtley and Bill Howard officiating. Casual attire is requested. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery on Williamsburg Hill with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Lakewood United Methodist Church.

Mr. Nohren was born on September 9, 1928 in Cold Spring Township of Shelby County, Illinois, the son of Merrill and Elsie Cunningham Nohren. He graduated from Herrick High School. Robert was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. He returned from the service and worked for the Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville. He later worked for Hanfland’s Sand and Gravel in Shelbyville and retired in October 1990 from the Illinois Department of Transportation. Robert was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church and a former member of Laborers International Union Local #1262 of Shelbyville. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing bingo, mowing, and smoking his pipe. He married Ruby Miller on December 27, 1957.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Nohren of Shelbyville; daughters, Brenda Bogart and husband Greg of Shelbyville and Barbara Holmes and husband Charles, Jr. of Lakewood; brother, Lyle Nohren of Brownstown; sisters, Doris Clawson of Shelbyville and Joan Simmons and husband P.D. of Cowden; sister-in-law, Earlene Nohren of Cowden; grandchildren, Mitchell, Jordan and Sarah Bogart, Charles Holmes III and Jeremy Holmes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Paul, Roger, John and David Nohren.
