Roger R Reel

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Steven Becker officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday in the church and one half hour before service time Tuesday also in the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, St. Paul’s Cemetery Fund or Donor’s Choice. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL.
Roger was born on February 23, 1943 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Ralph and Lela (Lenz) Reel. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith, and a life-long member of St. Paul’s in Strasburg. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in 1961.
Roger was a farmer and raised several breeds of cattle: Red Poll, Red Angus, and Normande. He also raised a variety of poultry, including a large flock of chickens. He enjoyed the farm cats especially Buddy.
Roger served in the Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970 and was employed at Fedders (Norge) in Effingham for a time. He enjoyed going to auctions and visiting with relatives, cousins, and friends and was very interested in family genealogy and history.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Pastor Becker and to all of Roger’s caregivers, especially Dr. Bowers and the nurses and staff at Shelbyville Manor and Shelby Memorial Hospital for their kind and loving care. Also appreciation to his nephew, Richard Reel II and John Helton for helping with the farm and livestock and all the good friends and relatives who helped at the farm, visited Roger, and sent cards.
Surviving are his brothers, Richard Reel and John (Cathy) Reel all of Strasburg, IL; sister, JoAnn (James) Klepzig of Shelbyville, IL; aunt and best friend, Violet Ellison of Shelbyville, IL; aunts, Juanita (Allen) Rankin of Strasburg, IL and Pat Lenz of Villa Park, CA; step-mother, Nancy Reel of Windsor, IL; nieces and nephews, Laura (Dino) Dabezic of Naperville, IL, Michael (Ashley) Klepzig of Shelbyville, IL; Jennifer Buening of Sigel, IL, Richard (Keri) Reel II, Jeremy Reel, and Courtney Reel all of Strasburg, IL; and great nieces and nephews, Dilen, Ella, and Aden Dabezic of Naperville, IL, Will, Harrison, and Dawson Klepzig of Shelbyville, IL, and Kiefer, Rosalyn, and Corbyn Reel of Strasburg, IL.
Preceding in him in death are his parents.
Roger was a kind and very friendly person and will be sadly missed by all his loved ones.
