Ronald Keith Koehler , 78, of Shelbyville, IL passed away at 6:47 am on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at his residence.

Private family services will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Shelbyville Fire Protection District or the Shelbyville Booster Club and mailed to Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, 415 North Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.

Ron was born on January 23, 1943 in Brownstown, IL, the son of Evert and Zola (Roberts) Koehler.  He graduated Vandalia High School in the Class of 1961, where he earned 15 varsity letters.  Ron married Shelley Mabry on August 18, 1963 in Vandalia, IL. In 1966, Ron received his bachelor’s degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University.  After college he was a science teacher and coach for the Shelbyville Community Unit School District #4 for nine years.   Outside of family, his great pride was coaching many of the students he taught.  Ron served as the General Manager for G.W. Prosser Company in Shelbyville and later for the Nokomis Quarry Company in Nokomis, IL until his retirement in December of 2020.  Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and spending time at the cabin.

Ron is survived by his wife, Shelley; mother, Zola Koehler Sturgill of Shelbyville; daughter, Wendy (Jerry) Yockey of Shelbyville, sons, Brett (Amy) Koehler and Kris (Lia) Koehler all of Shelbyville; four grandchildren, Molly (Levi) Pruemer of Shelbyville, Maggy (Lucas) Prather of Alton, and Tanner and Tessa Koehler of Shelbyville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Evert Koehler; step-father, Richard Sturgill; mother-in-law, Gwen Mabry Dearth; father-in-law, Jay Max Mabry; and brother-in-law, Jay Milton Mabry.
