Ronald L Hatfield

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home with Pastor John Curtis officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Cornerstone Community Fellowship or the Food Pantry at the First United Methodist Church.
Ron was born on May 17, 1940 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Homer Ward and Selma Christina (Smith) Hatfield. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1958. Ron began working for Thermogas in Shelbyville, IL and was a lifelong bulldozer operator, owning and operating Hatfield Bulldozing and Excavating in Shelbyville, IL. He was an independent contractor during the construction of Lake Shelbyville. Ron later worked for Howell Asphalt, was a Road Commissioner for Rose Township during the 1990’s and maintained the four clocks atop the Shelby County Courthouse. He was a member of Cornerstone Community Fellowship and the National Rifle Association. Ron enjoyed hunting, mushroom hunting, storytelling, living on the farm, having company, spending time with his family, and his beloved dog Sophie “Smokey”. He married Irma Elaine Barr on November 4, 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Irma; daughters, Tammy Fathauer and husband Jim of Shelbyville, IL and Wendy Elzy and husband Mike of Sullivan, IL; step-sons, Scott Barr and wife Gina of Woodridge, IL, Roger Barr and wife DeAnn of Snohomish, WA and Rob Spickard and wife Tiffany of Memphis, IN; sister, Deloris Nippe and husband Roger of DuBois, IL; grandchildren, Alison Roberts, Tiffany Freier, Caley Elzy and Caden Elzy; step-grandchildren, Emily and Steven Barr and Ethan, Grace, Preston, and Clara Barr; four great grandchildren; six nieces and nephews; and eleven great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Claude Hatfield.
