Rosalie Smith

(October 1, 1927 – August 13, 2023)

Rosalie Smith , 95, of Mode, Illinois, slipped into Heaven on Sunday, August 13, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Rosalie was born on October 1, 1927 in Sullivan, Illinois to William E. Selock and Ina Belle Cain Selock. She graduated from Shelbyville High School. Rosalie married Fred Smith, Jr. on November 18, 1945. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Karen Ann Forcum (Ted), Karla Kay Mahar (Tim), Billie Gayle Childress (Allen);  and five grandchildren, Gerald Wayne Forcum, John Frederick Forcum, Rebecca Medora Seibert (Brian), Kelly Reese Shinn (Brian White) and Kaitrin Tara Mahar. There are six great grandchildren, Anthony, Medora, Garrett, TJ, Sloane, and Rebel; plus six great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Betty Stolle (Fred) of Lemay, MO, Peggy Devine of Bend, OR, and Patsy Waring of Missouri.

Rosalie spent her life as a housewife. She loved the outdoors, spending time with her family. She loved having her grandkids and great grandkids over for weekends. She played with them, joining in on all their games. She always made everyone feel loved, and anyone who met her liked her. She never met a stranger. She was interested in what you were doing, and gave everyone her undivided attention. She especially loved every animal that crossed her path. Her dogs especially captured her heart, living the life of royalty.

Rosalie was preceded in death by her husband, Junior; her parents; sisters, Wilma Nohren, Janette and Norma Jean; brother, Billy Selock; brother-in-law, Ed Nohren; daughter, Billie Childress; and son-in-law, Ted Forcum.

The family will have a private burial, at a later point in time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for any donations to go to the Effingham County Humane Society (12073 N. 1000 th Rd, Effingham, IL 62401), or an animal shelter of your choice, in memory of Rosalie’s deep love for animals.  Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N.
