Roy F Smith

A time of fellowship for family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2015 in the Herrick Community Center, Herrick, IL. Burial will be at a later date in Myers Cemetery, Herrick, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Shelby County Relay for Life/American Cancer Society or Arthritis Foundation.

Roy was born on December 3, 1932 in Cold Spring Township, of Shelby County, IL, the son of Frederick B. and Rea May Walker Smith. He graduated from Herrick High School and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Roy was an operating engineer for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 279 of Decatur, IL and a farmer in the Tower Hill and Herrick areas until his retirement. He was a member of Moose Lodge #1294, Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 and V.F.W. Post #4829 all of Shelbyville, IL. Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman. He married Karen Louise Drew on March 5, 1970. She died on March 18, 2014.

He is survived by his children, Mark F. Smith and wife Heidi of Tower Hill, IL, Danny Sloan and wife Deb of Windsor, IL, Vickie Jayne and husband Mike of Newton, IL, Steve Sloan and wife Brenda of Strasburg, IL and Tim Sloan of Hudson, NC; half-brother, Herman Sparr of Shelbyville, IL; half-sister, Agnes Smart of Pana, IL; 10 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karen; brother, Donald Smith; and two grandchildren, Rachel J. Sloan and Jevon A. Sloan.
