Roy Wendell Gaunt, 77, of Shelbyville, Illinois, died at 9:50 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2015 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville, Illinois with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, Illinois and one hour before services Friday in the church. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Graceland Cemetery, Laurel, Iowa. Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville, Illinois.

Roy was born on June 9, 1938 in Clemons, Iowa (Marshall County), the son of Frank and Irene Nelson Gaunt. He lived on a farm in Central Iowa and for a short time in Ames, Iowa. Roy was a graduate of Johnston Iowa High School. Roy married Eleanor Boos on June 22, 1968 in Fairfield, Iowa. He farmed with his brother in Iowa and later farmed independently. While in Iowa Roy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, where he was President of the Congregation. He was also President of the Lions Club in Laurel, Iowa. Roy and Eleanor and their two sons, Bryce and Bruce, moved to Shelby County, Illinois in 1984. Roy worked for Shelby FS and Effingham-Clay FS. Following his retirement from FS, he worked for Shelby Home Equipment and also for Keith and Pam Hennings on their farm. Roy was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Shelbyville. He was a member of the church choirs of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, Iowa, in support of his wife who was the choir director for both churches. Roy was well known for his sense of humor and for making over 100 model tractors out of sewing machines. He was a devoted husband and father, always thinking of his wife and family first. Roy was proud of his sons and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; sons, Bryce (Becky) Gaunt and their son, Davis Gaunt all of Smiths Station, Alabama and Bruce (Shanda) Gaunt and their children, Evelyn and Taylor Gaunt all of Albertville, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Mary Gaunt of Marshalltown, Iowa and Lois Gaunt of Kalispell, Montana; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Paul and Fred Gaunt.
