Ruby Ida Mae Nohren, 80, of Shelbyville, IL formerly of Lakewood, IL, died Monday, February 23, 2015 in Shelbyville Manor.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2015 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Phillip Glick officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery on Williamsburg Hill, near Lakewood, IL. Memorials may be given to the Lakewood United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ruby was born on May 4, 1934 in Fayette County, Illinois, the daughter of Melvin and Goldie Smith Miller. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1951 and also from Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. Ruby was a bookkeeper in Dr. Larson’s office, the ASCS office and later in Hanfland’s Sand and Gravel office all in Shelbyville. She was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church. Ruby loved spending time with her grandkids. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and raising chickens. She married Robert Merrill Nohren on December 27, 1957. He died on January 14, 2013.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Bogart and husband Greg of Shelbyville, IL and Barbara Holmes and husband Charles, Jr. of Lakewood, IL; brother, Donald Miller and wife Shirlee of Woodland, WA; sisters-in-law, Sandy Miller of Shelbyville, IL and Martha Miller of Lakewood, IL; five grandchildren, Mitchell, Jordan and Sarah Bogart, Charles Holmes III and Jeremy Holmes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brothers, Ed and Jim Miller; and sister, Judi Denton.

A special “thank you” to the staff of Shelbyville Manor for the love and care they provided for Ruby over the past eight years.
