Ruby L. (Hagan) Ethridge, 78, of Shelbyville, formerly of Pana, IL, died at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Dan Eloe officiating. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville or donor’s choice.

Ruby was born on August 9, 1933 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Chester Cleyon and Pearl Ruby (Perry) Hagan. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1951. Ruby carried both the Shelbyville Daily Union and Decatur Herald & Review newspapers while she was in school. She began working in several area restaurants, including Chuck’s, Elsie’s and the Little Red Hen. She then worked for the Illinois Auto License Department in Springfield for many years. Ruby retired from Shelbyville Manor where she worked for eleven years. She attended the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville. She enjoyed crocheting and was a talented wedding and birthday cake maker. Ruby was a faithful friend and neighbor.

She is survived by her sons, David and Michael Day both of Pana, IL; daughter, Sharon Hopper and husband Michael of Hazelwood, MO; step-children, Kenny Ethridge of Pana, IL, Floyd Ethridge of Irving, TX, Connie Hill and husband Mike of Pawnee, IL and Bonnie Ferguson and husband Dale of Edinburg, IL; brothers, Robert Hagan and wife Elaine of Shelbyville, IL, Cleyon Hagan and wife Lois of Crocker, MO and Kenneth “Cork” Hagan and wife Angie of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Clara Peters of Springfield, IL; aunts, Zelma (Perry) Banning and Martha (Perry) Butler both of Shelbyville, IL; 13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ron Hagan; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Hagan.
