Ruth Doty
(March 31, 1929 – December 11, 2008)
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy Lewis officiating. Visitation from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg. Memorials may be given to Strasburg United Methodist Church.
Ruth was born on March 31, 1929 in Beloit, Wisconsin, the daughter of Herbert and Mamie Ann Kyle Hirtzel. She graduated from Strasburg High School in the Class of 1947. Ruth worked for Switchcraft and Felicity Fashions both in Sullivan. She also wrote articles for the Effingham Daily News and sat with the elderly. She was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church, where she played piano for 64 years.
Surviving are her sons, Dale Doty and wife Sharolett of Mattoon, Mike Doty and wife Dianne of Strasburg and Lynn Doty and girlfriend Teresa of Shelbyville; son-in-law, Jim Kite of Shelbyville; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Aveleah Kite.
