Ruth U. (Perkinson) Reider, 80, of Neoga, Illinois, formerly of Shelbyville, died at 6:50 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008 in St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham, Illinois.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Strasburg, Illinois. Visitation one hour before services. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Reider was born on June 27, 1928 in Kansas, Illinois, the daughter of George Raymond and Laura Isabelle Hadden Perkinson. She graduated from Arcola High School and attended Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. While a student at Sparks, she worked at the soda fountain at Walgreen’s in Shelbyville. She married Lyle E. Reider on November 30, 1946. They owned and operated Reider’s Restaurant in Shelbyville for 42 years. Lyle died on August 10, 1998. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville. Ruth enjoyed bowling, sewing, baking and gardening and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.

Surviving are her son, David and wife Cheryl Shride Reider of Wabash, Indiana; daughters, Kay and husband George Harper of Knoxville, Tennessee and Kris Reider of Neoga, Illinois; brothers, Howard “Ray” Perkinson and wife Patricia of Hardinsburg, Indiana and John Perkinson and wife Delores of Diamondhead, Mississippi; sister-in-law, Patsy Starwalt and husband Lloyd of Sherman, Illinois; grandchildren, Bryan Harper of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jennifer Shride of Woodstock, Georgia, Nathan Reider of Yelm, Washington, Heather Reider of Wabash, Indiana and Adam Reider of Effingham, Illinois; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; and brother, Merrill Perkinson.
