Sabina G. Thompson, 87, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 6:00 a.m. Sunday, June 10, 2018 in Shelbyville Manor, Shelbyville, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Tim Yankee officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Findlay Cemetery, Findlay, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to her family.

Sabina was born on October 13, 1930 in Assumption, IL, the daughter of Carl and Lena (Zinn) Murphy. She graduated from Findlay High School in 1948 and married Chester F. Thompson on May 30, 1948. The Reverend Dewey Zinn, Sabina’s Uncle, performed the ceremony. They were married for 69 years. Sabina was a loving and caring wife to Chester, who passed away on October 30, 2017, and mother to Cheryl, who resides in Shelbyville, IL.

She worked at Dr. D. J. Singler’s dentist office in Shelbyville for 17 years and also cleaned at the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville with her husband Chester for 23 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School and was active in many church programs. She served as President of Women’s Missionary Group for several years, Vice-President of Women’s Regional Mockingbird Missionary Group for three years, served on the Hospitality Committee for several years, belonged to Keenagers for Seniors at Church and helped start the Awana Program for the Youth, working with many boys and girls.

Sabina was a good listener, a very wise woman and a great prayer warrior to many. She was a gifted seamstress, who enjoyed sewing special projects, like geese clothes and making all of her daughter’s clothing. She loved doing Circle-A-Word puzzle books. Sabina also enjoyed cooking for family gatherings, and always knew their favorites. Everyone loved her potato salad, but she never shared the recipe.

Her strong faith in the Lord Jesus always kept her going. She always said, “God needed to give her more patience.” She had several health issues, but she knew she was in God’s hands.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Thompson of Shelbyville, IL; brothers, Fred Murphy and Louis Murphy and wife Doris all of Shelbyville, IL; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and great great nephews and niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lena Murphy; husband, Chester; and brothers, Bill, Carl, Jr. and J.T. Murphy.
