Sandy Large
(November 23, 1944 – November 25, 2016)
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Jan Lawson will be the minister. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, near Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Sarah Bush Lincoln Regional Cancer Center in Mattoon, IL.
Sandy was born on November 23, 1944 in Clinton, IL, under the given name of Edna Irene Kelley. Her father, John Ross Kelley, preferred to call her Sandy. This is who she recognized herself as and who everyone knew her to be. Sandy grew up in the Assumption area where she attended Assumption High School.
Sandy married Wayne D. Lenz on November 24, 1962. They later divorced and he preceded her in death, but to this union they raised four children: Delbert Lenz of Shelbyville, IL, Peggy Greenwood of Crosby, TX, Diana (Chad) Marlow of Shelbyville, IL and Kelley Lenz of Tower Hill, IL.
Sandy’s greatest desire was to have a large family. Her wish was granted by her ten grandchildren, Krista (Jeremy) Wolke of Montrose, IL, Craig (Katie) Lenz of Gays, IL, Shane Greenwood and Ryan Greenwood both of Crosby, TX, Stephanie (Clinton) Holder of Dayton, TX, William, Jessica and Caitlyn Marlow all of Shelbyville, IL, Brieanna Lenz of Tower Hill, IL and Matt Phillips of Mattoon, IL; and great grandchildren, Jessica Greenwood, Jackson Lenz, Aurora Holder and two more on the way next spring.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Bonnie King of Metropolis, IL; very special friend, Kim Metzger of Owaneco, IL; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Sandy worked for many years for International Paper in Shelbyville in the Quality Control Department. In her retirement she enjoyed sewing, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church near Shelbyville, IL.
She was preceded in death by her father; sister, Patsy Graham; and half- brothers, Michael, John and Tracey Esslinger.
