Savilla M Mars

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014 in the First Baptist Church, 1000 W. North 6th Street, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Dan Eloe officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
Savilla was born on March 24, 1925 in Clay County, IL, the daughter of Rolla C. and Clara H. Salters Wyatt. She married Jack Mars on December 21, 1950 and they were married for over 60 years. Savilla was a supportive wife who spent her life making a wonderful home for her family wherever they settled. They lived in Lakewood, IL for 36 years, where she provided a ‘wonderland’ for the entire family. She was an unbelievably nurturing and loving mother to her four children, eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Savilla was the ‘rock’ for her family and will be greatly missed. She was a beautiful Christian lady, who was greatly rewarded from her mission work in Guatemala. Savilla had a strength that helped her to fight back from many obstacles in her life and especially during these last few years of her illness.
She is survived by her children, Cheri Hicks and husband Ed of Newport News, VA, Denny Mars and wife Erica of Franklin, TN, David Mars and wife Linda of Westland, MI and Stan Mars and wife Vicki of Mt. Pleasant, AR; grandchildren, Chad Hicks and wife Melissa, Cory Hicks and wife Tara, Casey Elmore and husband Tim, Christy Puckett and husband Brian, Brad Mars and wife Amber, Mike Mars and wife Cheryl, Nick Mars, Michelle Mars, Brian Mars, Allison Mars and Kevin Mars; and great grandchildren, Kellen Hicks, Colton Hicks, Ronan Hicks, Caden Hicks, Mason Hicks, Sullivan Hicks, Connor Hendrickson, Brenna Hendrickson, Kinley Puckett, Alayna Mars, Chaela Mars, Mike Mars, Alyssa Mars, Josh Mars, and Dawson Mars.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Mars on January 26, 2011; and seven brothers and sisters.
